“Forget about the pseudo-diners and nostalgia-themed restaurants that popped up during the '90s. This family-friendly place, established in 1928, is the real deal. Sit at the counter and swivel on your stool with an ice cream soda or old-fashioned lemonade. Enjoy burgers and sandwiches in one of the old wooden booths. The vintage jukebox — two plays for a quarter — features old 45s you haven't heard in years.”

Lee's Sandwiches

1901 W Warner Rd (at N Dobson Rd)

Chandler • (480) 855-1778

“Started by two brothers from Vietnam, this fast-casual operation specializes in sandwiches, classified European or Asian, and made on croissants or house-made baguettes. The Asian sandwiches, topped with pickled veggies, cilantro and jalapeño, are delicious and surprisingly cheap.

“Rarely does ice cream reach this level of flavor saturation. How they get the honeydew to taste so fresh and ripe is near magical. Pina colada, with pineapple chunks and shaved coconut, sweeps you off tothe islands in one link. It’s all made in-house, and flavors rotate, so why not go bonkers and try some of the more exotic Asian flavors?”

Udder Delights

1385 E Warner Rd

Gilbert • (480) 507-3859

Fresh, local ingredients from Superstition Farm are used to create treats like milkshakes, lemon bars, coconut-lime ricotta cookies and more than 20 flavors of ice cream.

Handmade farmer’s cheeses, artisan butters and cheese-infused desserts complement the unique ice cream flavors. Some say “artisan” some say “pop art” – we call it Real Food For Real People. Oh, and yes – yummy.

We take farm fresh ingredients from our farm friends and our Chef – Jennifer Johnson – transforms them into desserts from old favorites (fresh lemon bars anyone?) to instant classics (coconut/lime ricotta cookies are “little clouds of heaven” cooed one customer!).

"Udder Delights is about as close to perfect ice cream as you will find. They put a lot of time and love and use the best and freshest ingredients they can."
